Some senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, who were promoted in November 2022, have complained about their unpaid promotion allowances.
The Forward News Media learnt that that many of the affected officers, who are Senior Inspectors, Assistant Superintendents of Police and Deputy Commissioners of Police, were still being paid their old salaries 11 months after they were promoted.
The affected policemen claimed they had made representations to the police leadership about the issue without getting any positive response.
They further lamented the nonpayment of their eleven months promotion arrears.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior Inspector said, “We were promoted in November last year as senior Inspectors, but till date, we are still being paid our old salaries and allowances of junior Inspectors. All necessary documentations have been done; yet no increase in salaries and allowances.
Yet, no explanation from IGP nor anyone; rather, the acting IGP is going around with the slogan of fighting corruption in the police.”
Another officer added, “Our current pay is N130,000 but Senior Inspector which we were promoted to ought to be paid N180,000 to N185,000 per month. Difference of N50,000 to N55,0000 since some states pay differently, meaning we are being owned about N600,000 in the last 11-months.”
An affected Assistant Superintendent of Police added, “ASP 11 that were promoted ASP 1 since June 2022 are yet to be paid as well, The only indicator of our elevation is the new ranks we are wearing as the benefits accruing have not reflected in our bank accounts or living standards for over a year now.
Unfortunately, no explanation has been given to us about the non-payment till today.”
