DELTA GOV’T ADDRESSING SECURITY BREACHES, INCLUDING IKA NATION – EACGOV…….. SAYS PEACE WILL BE RESTORED TO AFFECT COMMUNITIES
There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigeria has been experiencing security challenges for over a decade, occasioned by criminal activities of terrorists, bandits and some herdsmen, however, Delta State stands out as one of the most secured and safe states in the country.
Executive Assistant on Communications and Head of the State Orientation Bureau, Dr Latimore Oghenesivbe, made the assertion in a statement on Sunday, to reaffirm his earlier position in an interview with Ika based Sleek FM Radio, wherein he denied allegations of acute insecurity across the state.
He said one of the community newspapers in Ika nation, obviously twisted his response on security breaches, adding that his candid response to a question put to him was that there are no serious insecurity problems in Delta that would prevent citizens from going about their legitimate activities.
“My attention has been drawn to a misleading publication by one of the community newspapers in Ika nation titled: “Delta Gov’t not aware of any serious security challenge in Ika Land.”
“On the alleged insecurity in some parts of Ika Land, I specifically said such security breaches should have been given adequate publicity to attract emergency response, and I appealed to political appointees and elected representatives of all communities across the state to always endeavour to collaborate with security agencies to immediately tackle such breaches.
“I promised during the program to interface with the State Police Command, the SSG’s office, and to also report distress calls made by callers to His Excellency, the the Governor, which I did.
“The reported killings in Ika nation by some herdsmen is davastating, barbaric and it requires urgent reinforcement by security operatives to restore peace to the affected communities.
“I sympathize with the families of the bereaved, and pray God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable losses.
“The state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, in collaboration with the State Police Command is doing the needful to address security breaches in affected communities, and I strongly believe that peace shall be restored to those communities,” Oghenesivbe assured.
