Dr. Wilcox Idaminabo, however, opined that the crime rate in the state had reduced drastically due to workable structures that are on ground, as well as the support from other sister agencies.
According to Dr. Wilcox, There is no magic in curbing of crime. It is about putting down structures. In fact, not just structures but workable crime-fighting structures. Your ability and capability to supervise and ensure that the men you deploy are doing exactly what you expected of them.
He as well believes in Nigeria State, people have the constitutional right to protest but provided there is peace. What has happened in Imo State is criminality, some hoodlums have taken over the state in the name of IPOB but with the support of Director General Department of State Services, we have been able to stop criminalities that has been going on, we are doing work of service to humanity to ensure that innocent citizens go about their lawful duties without fear. Beyond doubts because intelligence gathering is not a one-man business. That is why in Nigeria, the emphasis is on ensuring the protection of states and its officials, citizens, critical resources and infrastructure from domestic threats. No one does it alone. There is a need to bring other strategic partners that can give information and team up to fight crime to a standstill. That is just the way out.
In Imo State, we have many strategic partners in crime-fighting. Non-policing actors are there, including the vigilance groups, hunters, anti- kidnapping volunteer groups, and anti-cult volunteer groups, among others. They are all willing to partner with us. Our sister agencies are also on ground. There is no magic in curbing of crime. Determination is all we need to succeed. That passion to succeed is the driving force behind whatever success we set to achieve. And once you have that in mind, be rest assured that the sky is our limit.
”His peculiar modus operandi of inculcating native intelligence in crime fighting as a cerebral and operational officer has since become a handbook for DSS.
He was quoted as telling his officers and traditional rulers in one of the town hall meetings that; “I am here to curb crime to its barest minimum and not here in Imo state to look at fine faces.I am here to work in line with the collection of intelligence gathering for good governance and with the thrust of my Director General who sent me here to you my elders, revered traditional rulers and people of Imo State, we need your cooperation especially, in the area of volunteering vital information that will enable us serve you better. Together we shall win this war against insecurity.
”Dr. Wilcox Idaminabo, a very experienced and astute officer of the DSS known for diligence, resilience, hard work and result oriented. On assumption of duty as the Director of Department of State Services in Imo State Command, he hit the ground running by galvanizing officers and men in his command to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the State.
The achievements of DSS under his watch in Imo State is visible in all the nook and crannies of the state. Kidnapping and Roasting of human flesh, the usual killing of Security Personnel and snatching of their arms as well as other anti-social vices by persons suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB took a permanent flight with the dislodgment of their criminal hideouts in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State And to give a bite to the warning signals which he handed down to his officers and men to live up to expectation or exit the state.
The incessant attacks on hapless farmers by criminals masquerading as IPOB became history. Peace returned to the state with socio-economic activities thriving once more and the people were happy for it.
He also dedicated the award bestowed on him by The Forward News Media to his entire team as it is a very prestigious award to the command which will as well spur them to do more in ensuring that they will continue to hold the sanctity of human life, to continue to do their operations with intelligence to ensure that no innocent person will be killed or suffer and recovering of arms .
The Command under the conscious watch of Director Dr.Wilcox Idaminabo with a formidable workforce achieved a rare feat in the recovery of arms and ammunition with an astonishing of varying calibers and ammunitions. Out of the total number of recovered ammunition were from IPOB members, kidnappers, armed robbers, as well as cultists respectively.With these commendable and modest achievements recorded in less than a year, prominent Imo State from all walks of life both in Nigeria and in diaspora could not but continually applaud the intelligence gathering strategies of Dr Wilcox who they described as a detribalized Nigerian.
