EDO STATE PALLIATIVE WORK BEGINS ON FEDERAL ROADS

the palliative works are ongoing include the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road and Benin-Sapele-Warri road

The works began a week after residents of the state blocked the roads in protest over their parlous state. The roads on which the palliative works are ongoing include the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road and Benin-Sapele-Warri road

Some of the workers, who spoke to journalists, said the work would enable motorists and travellers to use the road without too many hassles, noting that the road would become better as soon as the federal government commences full rehabilitation on them.

According to one of the workers, “We are here to do palliative work on the roads to make sure it is motorable. However, a lot of work still needs to be done to ensure that the roads are perfect for use. Hopefully, the work we are doing on the road will alleviate the suffering of the people.”

A lorry driver, who identified himself as Sam, said the road would not have become so bad if the government was maintaining it.

He said: “The major thing is that the roads are not well maintained in the country. Imagine a road getting so bad to a point that the people had to protest against it before it could be fixed. We wasted quality time here during the protest which was bad for business.

“I hope that they will finish the repairs that they have started so that we don’t suffer during the Christmas period which is fast approaching.

In his response to the ongoing road repairs via WhatsApp message, the Edo State Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Ethan Uzamere, said the repairs are being carried out by the state government.
