MR REGINALD BAYOKO MNI-TRAINING AND RETRAINING OF WORKER IN DELTA STATE IS GEARED TOWARDS ENHANCING THEIR ABILITIES AND SKILLS FOR EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT JOB PERFORMANCE

The Delta State Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Reginald Bayoko, stated this while declaring open a one-day Performance Improvement Workshop, organised by the Directorate of Government House and Protocol in conjunction with Messrs Farmers Consult for staff of the directorate, held at the Press Centre, Government House, Asaba.

Mr. Bayoko, who stimulated the participants with several work ethics, nuggets, said that the Delta State Government would continue to give priority attention to the capacity building of its workforce, saying that training was an indispensable tool for human and national development.

He said every training was important as it would make staff to understand the fundamentals of their work schedule and what was expected of them.Bayoko, who advised the participants to always put in their best, told them to imbibe the values and work ethics of doing their work very well by being meticulous and hard working, charged them to always treat everybody with respect.

He reminded civil servants in the state of the need to continue to uphold the hallmark of loyalty which the civil service was known for. “Learn to respect other people’s viewpoints and listen to their own side of the story,” Bayoko counselled.

The HOS advised participants on punctuality, saying that they should never be late or miss a deadline.“Own up to your mistakes and explain how you think challenges could be fixed” The HoS said.

He also told civil servants to dress up properly, reflective of the dress code requirements of the service.“The issue of dressing cannot be overlooked because the way you are dressed is how you would be addressed,” he added.

While stressing the need for civil servants to develop their public speaking skills and learn to communicate effectively with their employers and colleagues, the HOS said the state government would continue to support staff development programmes, aimed at the career progression of the workers.

He thanked the state governor and Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, describing him as a civil service friendly governor.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary (PS), Government House and Protocol, Sir Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje, in his welcome remarks, disclosed that the training was in tandem with the Human Capital Development agenda of the Okowa Administration in the state.

The PS, who said that one of the objectives of the workshop was to enhance the productivity of the staff in the Government House and Protocol, maintained that training and training was critical in upscaling the skills of workers.
