SPECIAL REPORT: POLICE DISMISS Trigger-happy COP FOR ALLEGEDLY KILLING PHONE DEALER In DELTA STATE
The Nigerian Police Force, Delta State Command, has dismissed a member of a stop-and-search police team, Inspector Ebri Ubi, for allegedly killing a phone dealer, Mr. Onyeka Ibe, while on duty, along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili north local government area of the State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright said the dismissed officer would also be charged to court.
In a short e-message by DSP Bright, on Monday April 18th 2023, he said: “INSPR Ubi Ebri has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police force and will be charged to court tomorrow Wednesday 19th April 2023.
The court will be determined tomorrow”, he said.
The Story, can authoritatively report that the offending officer was subjected to internal disciplinary measures, including criminal prosecution through a police orderly room trial, following the killing incident that happened on April 5th 2023.
The Story, reported how Onyeka, was shot in the presence of his wife at Ugbolu-Illah Road, on the date as mentioned earlier.
The young man fondly addressed as Onyi, gadget dealer’s life was cut short by a police officer attached to Delta State Police Command, Asaba.
Contrary to claims that he was a yahoo boy, the late Onyi sales phones for a living.
He was allegedly killed in front of his wife over alleged police extortions, brutality and killings .
Meanwhile, youths have protested and demanded for justice for the slain popular phone seller in Asaba.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, was quoted to have said: “the Police inspector has been identified, arrested, paraded, and detained.
The Command assures members of the public and the deceased family of justice. Investigation has commenced, and he will be arraigned in court for prosecution”.
Following the killing, Delta State Command revealed that as a disciplined organization, it would subject the officer, Inspector Ebri Ubi, who killed the Asaba phone dealer, Onyeka Ibe, over N100. 00 extortion while on stop and search duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili north local government area of Delta State.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, dropped the hint on Wednesday April 5th 2023, while consoling the family, friends and other concerned members of the deceased.
The condolence message made available to newsmen in Asaba, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright, disclosed that the offending officer would be subjected to internal disciplinary measures, including criminal prosecution.
The police boss who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of late Mr. Onyeka Ibe, who was reportedly shot dead by the Inspector of Police, Ubi.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police on receipt of the sad news immediately ordered the arrest and detention of the errant police officer and directed that his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba where he has further ordered for a thorough and speedy investigation.
He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law abiding, assuring them justice will not just be done but will be seen to have been done.

The dismissed officer would be arraigned in Court on Tuesday April 19th 2023, for murder charges.
It would be recall that The Story, had earlier reported that a yet to be identified trigger happy police officer allegedly shot a young harmless man on the head, killing him on the spot.
The Story, equally reported that the images of the young man killed by a policeman in Delta State, has surfaced on social media.
The deceased is known as Onyeka Ibe, a phone seller at the popular Ogbe-Gonogo market along Nnebisi road, Asaba, the Delta State capital.
It would be also recall that the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the police to launch a thorough investigation into the alleged killing.
