Hear Him:
Tell us whom you are and your area of expertise?
my name is Henry Osicheli, I am the CEO of Hen and D Enterprise and our company is practically into construction in the area of civil and electrical. We carry out installations of transformers substations, 33kv lines and 11kv lines across Nigeria. Hen and D is also into construction of residential and commercial buildings such as hotels e.t.c within the environs.
In this present times, what material do you recommend to execute any given contract considering the ingenuity of material and the increase of price?
Well, in terms of construction we don’t consider material variations much because when you are going into construction, I feel there will be a proper design made for it. Hen and D strictly work according to a specified design in a detailed drawing undermining the cost in the market.
How do you handle your relationship with clients or customers in your business base on the unforeseen structural issues that may occur?
Diligently, we don’t have any issues with any of our customers. Right from the onset we must provide a detailed drawing for the work and we take time to explain and phantom in all the necessary terms that is supposed to be in the drawing to avoid occurrence or maybe, you are not aware of what you want to embark on and so we inform you earlier time on what will be in the construction. And looking at the economy of Nigeria, we must add the variation so maybe if this thing is sold at ten naira today, bear it in mind that there will be increase of dollar. So we tell our customers these things so that they will be aware and all these procedures is should incase there is a delay of funding, you will not come out tomorrow and say the engineers did not give a detailed information concerning what you are going into. For example now if you are getting a rod, we tell you to purchase them now because tomorrow you might get it at higher price, and you won’t blame anybody. Lack of information is what the clients lack from their engineers and they tend not to carry out the exact task and needed materials to use, and this is as a result of some engineers wanting to get the contract by all means and end up doing nonsense, and problems will start. So when you are making your budget you must put excesses so that your clients will know and be informed before time.
In this sector, are there any further challenges you are experiencing?
Apart from the current economic crisis, there is no other further challenges and this is virtually affecting every system of the country because you find out that the project we execute as at last year at the rate of fifteen million is running for thirty million in this year. That is the challenge and we hope is been resolved by the government.
As you work towards achieving success, where do you see Hen and D Enterprise in few years time and is there any new development you would like to put on air?
From what we have in view, we are looking at Hen and D to go global in few years to come. At least we have gone into four states now and we are trying to see that by the end of this year and years to come, we will be moving round to execute projects. Even as we keep praying, we will cover the thirty-six states in Nigeria.
To your staff and people out there, what advice and legacy will you leave behind that is worthy of emulation?
We always encourage them to be hard working and whatever they are doing in the site, they should be conscious of safety because safety is the number one priority in the course of construction.
