To Tackle Hunger, Nigerian Customs Service Suspends Import Duties On Essential Food Items

 

It would be recalled that the Nigerian government granted import waivers for Rice, Beans, Wheat and other food items.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, has announced that the federal government has decided to suspend taxes and import duties on essential food items to tackle hunger prevailing in the country.

While acknowledging the widespread hunger in the country, he noted that the government was ready to ensure ease of financial burden on it citizens.

He also announced the streamlining of export processes to facilitate the movement of Nigerian goods to international market.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian government granted import waivers for Rice, Beans, Wheat and other food items.

The government noted that this move was aimed at crashing prices of food items in the market.

Different policies by the government are yet to yield results as of the time of this report as food inflation continues to grow, hitting 40.87% as of the time of this report.
