On a chat with the Delta State Zonal Chairman of Petroleum And Natural Gas Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) , he complained on the challenges encountered by the union, which is the uncertainties in the oil and gas sectors especially in the area of green energy, labour energy etc. and all these factors are to be considered when investing in the oil and gas industries. Secondly, the insincerity of most management in the oil and gas industries, Those companies sees the PENGASSAN or NUPENG union as a mean of extortion which the Unions have convince the companies from such mentality/ideology. Casualization in the industry is another challenge that needs to be considered because most organizations casualize their workers, out-sourcing for manpower supply and services and when the union tries to minimize this by giving them a voice, the management goes hard on them and because of the contracting, it becomes a challenge for the union. Finally The Nigeria Economy is another challenge. With the recent removal of subsidy, the union is faced with a different challenge because their workers would want to ask for increase in welfare to meet the economic demands but then, the organization is also faced with the same higher cost of progression and when the economy is not stable due to the rise and fall of the dollar, it becomes a challenge for the oil and gas industry.
Comrade. Engr Jeli Clement Nwanagum also pleaded with the Delta State Government to initiates people-oriented programmes, as people sees governance as a jambalaya playing to the gallery. While he would also like to see himself in 3years time as a management staff, that uses his wealth of experience in the union to help the organization move forward.
